Paging encryption demonstration - INFOPOL 2015 (21, 22, 23 April 2015).

Privacy, security and operational integrity should not be compromised when using paging technology and Infostream will be demonstrating its encryption solution for paging at the upcoming INFOPOL show.

Infostream’s X5 pager uses AS1208 encryption, and unlike other systems, does not increase the size of messages or adversely affect the sensitivity of pagers employing the protocol. It simply protects message from off-air eavesdropping.

July 2011 - Infostream Releases Discussion Paper on Pager Sensitivity

Infostream today released a discussion paper on the measurement and reporting of pager sensitivity.  The report covers various aspects of measurement, including the difference between free field tests and TEM cell tests, the variance between best position and average position, the variance between minimum and typical results, and the importance of acceptance criteria that relate to usabilty, legibility and the length of the message.

October 2010 - Report by 4G Americas

4G Americas, a wireless industry trade association representing the 3GPP family of technologies, today reports that it has published a white paper that provides a technical and practical analysis of SMS as a means to contact Emergency Services. The report titled, Texting to 9-1-1: Examining the Design and Limitations of SMS, presents a view of the capabilities, limitations, threats and vulnerabilities of this means of text communications for emergency networks.

"..SMS has significant limitations and shortcomings that do not make SMS suitable for emergency communications, especially under life-threatening conditions,” stated Chris Pearson, President of 4G Americas.

Sigtec Releases Case Study on Mobilising Process Information in Biochemical Plant

In this case study Sigtec and TQS demonstrate how the integration of process information in a modern biochemical facility can provide the ability to manage and mobilise the facility's alarm handling functions in a central location, and then to alter crucial staff through the use of Infostream X5-i digital pagers combined with Tetra portable radios.  Originally the digital Tetra radios were expected to be the primary notification tool, with paging as a secondary system. However in the two years since the commissioning of the system the paging direct to Infostream digital pagers is now the primary messaging platform for the entire plant.

Chelsea SES - Pagers in Use by SES Crews

Pagers are used by the SES for callout and despatch, and this is just one of the many stories that come to our attention about the volunteer work of the SES .....

They are calling it the Storm of the Century. When the astonishing hail, thunder and lightning and torrential rain hit Melbourne on Saturday (06/03/2010) afternoon it set SES pagers to overtime and the holiday long weekend became a non starter for most SES volunteers.  Read the full article on their website

EAS Update – Managing the black-spots

The Emergency Alerting System (EAS) has now been in full service operation
since November 2005 and under ESTA management since July 2006. During
this time, the system has been performing above expectations, particularly
during instances of peak activity (fire season, storm and emergency events).
Currently, in excess of 70,000 pager alerts are transmitted every month.

The EAS performance for 2008/09 resulted in an overall success rate of 99.99% against its target of 99.95%. 

The EAS is a dedicated messaging system which enables the Country Fire Authority (CFA), State Emergency Service (SES) and Ambulance Victoria (AV) regional emergency services staff and volunteers to be simultaneously alerted to incidents and provided with text messages by means of pocket pagers.
