The EAS performance for 2008/09 resulted in an overall success rate of 99.99% against its target of 99.95%.

The EAS is a dedicated messaging system which enables the Country Fire Authority (CFA), State Emergency Service (SES) and Ambulance Victoria (AV) regional emergency services staff and volunteers to be simultaneously alerted to incidents and provided with text messages by means of pocket pagers.

Since its inception, ESTA has continued to work in collaboration with the EAS customers to identify and, where deemed appropriate, remedy areas of coverage concern (‘black spots’). As a result of this collaborative work, the EAS network has progressively increased to accommodate 225 sites across regional Victoria, making this system one of the largest of its kind in the world.

The EAS Network provides an extremely robust and reliable form of emergency alerting technology. It is well supported by a fully redundant disaster recovery site and the satellite technology capability to broadcast alert messages (simulcast) to over 37,000 paging devices across the state of Victoria.
