Pager Sensitivity Measurement

Print

In this Technical Report a number of issues are raised regarding the measurement and reporting of pager sensitivity. As sensitivity is such a critical aspect of network design, especially for emergency services networks where coverage may be a life and death issue, it is important that practitioners have a common understanding of the various terms used, and the ways in which technical data gets used (or abused).

The report highlights the importance of clarity in stating the acceptance conditions, and especially notes that testing based on the international standards may be useful for pager-to-pager comparison, but may not yield useful results for network design unless fully understood.

The report also provides guidance on the basic set of information that should be noted in specifications, and highlights the fact that many manufacturers do not qualify their stated sensitivity with this data – making the information difficult to interpret accurately.
