July 2011 - Infostream Releases Discussion Paper on Pager Sensitivity

Infostream today released a discussion paper on the measurement and reporting of pager sensitivity.  The report covers various aspects of measurement, including the difference between free field tests and TEM cell tests, the variance between best position and average position, the variance between minimum and typical results, and the importance of acceptance criteria that relate to usabilty, legibility and the length of the message.

The discussion paper is a result of many questions that have been directed to Infostream regarding how to interpret manufacturer data sheets and how to infer real world network performance from laboratory results. It includes useful graphs comparing the probability of reception with different message lengths, and the divergence in measured results between tone only and alphanumeric measurement.
